Winter break at school

With the end of the school year approaching, you might be dreading a few days or weeks with no classes or homework. But winter break doesn’t have to be a time when you hibernate until spring—there are many fun things you can do as an alternative! Cabin fever can quickly set in when the weather gets cold. The same friends and family that we love so much seem to become even more annoying during winter break. But there are lots of great activities that don’t involve sitting indoors as much as possible. Have fun instead with these ideas for your winter break from school!

How to prepare?

If you’re getting cabin fever before winter break even starts, the best thing you can do is stay busy. Stay active and engaged in your daily life as much as possible, and you’ll have fewer opportunities to get irritable or bored. You can also try to be prepared for the inevitable winter weather. If you live in a place with cold winters, make sure you have a proper winter wardrobe so you don’t have to spend all your time indoors in your pajamas. If you’re preparing for bad weather, you can also prepare for fewer people outside. If you know you’ll want to go outside but you know it’s going to be cold, you may want to stock up on supplies.

Go outside!

When you’re stuck indoors during winter break from school, you’ll want to find ways to get fresh air. Go for a walk outside in your neighborhood if you can, and be sure to bundle up so you stay warm. If you absolutely can’t go outdoors, try to find ways to simulate the experience. Go ice skating if you can find a rink open during your break. Visit a botanical garden if it’s warm enough. If there are animals nearby, you can also visit the zoo. If you can, try to find ways to participate in outdoor winter sports. You can find out if your school has an intramural or club ski or ice skating team, or if there are nearby places that offer lessons. Visit a rock climbing or bouldering gym. You can also go sledding or build a snowman.

Travel

If you’ve got the money and the time, you can travel during winter break. You can go to visit family or friends out of town, or you can find an interesting place to visit if you don’t want to deal with family obligations. Be sure to book your travel well in advance if you want to save money, and if you want to visit somewhere warm to get out of the cold weather. Winter is the perfect time for people who want to travel on a budget to visit Europe. It’s not too hot, and many European countries are famous for their winter festivals and activities. Another great option is to visit somewhere in the U.S. that you’ve always wanted to see. You can go to Disneyland or Disney World during winter break, and you might see fewer people than you would during the summer.

Build a snowman or go sledding

This might be the most obvious one on the list, but you can do a lot of fun and silly things during winter break. You can build a snowman, go sledding, or build a snow fort. If there aren’t any snow nearby, you can still go outside and make snow angels. If the weather is warm enough, you can also go ice skating or visit a nearby frozen lake to go skating or ice fishing. If the weather isn’t warm enough to go outside, you can go to a nearby indoor ice skating rink.

Go on a hike or visit a museum

If you’re sick of being stuck indoors no matter how warm and cozy your house is, consider going on a hike or visiting a nearby museum. Hiking can be a great way to get outside and get some fresh air, and you can go hiking in many different places. You can also visit a nearby museum that you’ve always wanted to see.
